Hi all, anyone having issues with sorting a summary column on pivot tables? It worked fine then suddenly wont allow a sort for end users. Me as admin, it works fine.
Hey @garyGHL - we took a closer look at this, and concluded that it never actually allowed you to sort as an end user.
However, the sorting you applied as an admin, was the one that was shown to the end-user.
Our options are:
- Support only local sorting, so you as an admin can’t control the default experience, but users can change as necessary
- Keep the behaviour as is, but remove the icons that suggest the user can sort
We would definitely appreciate your insight into the preffered option
Hi @darragh , that is very odd, the director here assures me that before Christmas he was able to sort high/low and reverse on the summary column to show top/bottom users by ÂŁ.
Currently, me sorting as an admin doesn’t reflect on any users view, mine is always set as highest to lowest but the standard users view is all over the place, there is no order at all which is confusing for them.
This definitely worked previously as he used to screenshot it and email out to people, whether that was by luck or design I’m not sure
The screenshot below is from December last year that he sent out.
I think the option to “support only local sorting, so you as an admin can’t control the default experience, but users can change as necessary” is the best option, in fact I thought that was how it was anyway.
But, if that’s not possible, having me set it and that rill out to all users is good too, it just isnt working like that today.
Thank you
Hi @darragh , correction
I just published my app as a test to see if that helped and it did, rolls it out across all users.
No idea, why it unsorted or how it came to be all over the place it but it now seems to be sorted.
Letting users do their own sorting would be great but for now, panic is over ![]()
I’ll take another look but I don’t think we changed anything in that regard.
After you change it, you would need to publish the app, that much I know.
Either way, I’ll flag this with our team and make it work locally, as before.
Hi @darragh , I think something has gone wrong with this again.
Now, every pivot is randomly sorted, if I as admin sort high > low and publish it throws it back to random again, across every pivot in the app.
I just changed the sort on 2 pivots, went to publish and it now says app up to date and wont allow the publish. Very odd, this worked seamlessly until the new year. It used to keep the sorting (cached maybe), once we set once it kept it. Now, you have to sort each time you load the page.
Hi Gary,
I see why you’re thinking it’s not working for your users, but we’ve basically moved the “sorting preference” to be user-specific as opposed to something you can control as an admin.
This means your users just need to change their pivot table to sort whatever way they want, and then that preference will be remembered the next time.
Before, you as an admin could change it, but only other admins could change it for themselves.
I hope this makes more sense
Hi @darragh , I have checked in with 4 users, non admin who confirm they can indeed sort now but it goes back to random each time they leave the page. Even if they switch tabs it reverts back to random order.
As we have so many of these its a chore to keep having to sort. It used to cache their preference I’m sure.
I’ll ask my team to take another look @garyGHL
Thank you, Carlos still has a login I created for him of you need to test on our app.
Hi @darragh , appreciate this isn’t top priority but do you have any timescales when they may revert the weekends changes? I’ve pretty much got every one of users asking me, so if I could get them off my back for a bit it would be great ![]()
To recap, on Friday admins could change the sort order and publish the app, it would then feed down to all users. Since the change, users can sort locally but the sort doesn’t save/cache. So each time they load a page, it needs resorting again.
Thank you
The fix was released yesterday afternoon I believe, just make sure you and your users have reloaded the page.
I thought our support team had let you know, my apologies.
Excellent, thank you @darragh
