Launch Week #4 - Day 1 - Meet Nola

Big news: Launch Week is here! :tada:

Each day this week, we’re unveiling powerful new features—many of which have been highly requested by this Community —designed to make Noloco even better for you.

We’re kicking things off with something huge: Nola, the new AI-powered assistant built right into Noloco.

Nola isn’t just another chatbot, it’s your expert app architect.

Nola can:
:brick: Understand and modify your tables, fields, and layouts
:high_voltage: Set up complex workflows, permissions, and filters
:light_bulb: Explain how different parts of your business fit together

Just tell Nola what you need:

“Create a CRM for my construction company.”
“Add a workflow to notify my manager when a project status changes.”

And watch as Nola instantly creates your tables and fields, workflows, or makes changes to your App. In real-time, immediately, ready to use.

It’s like having an expert builder sitting beside you, while you create the custom business tools you’ve always dreamed of.

You changed the backend already. When do we get a tour of that?

Same question. Most urgent, how do you get out of edit mode with the new backend?

The Preview button should do that for you - it behaves the same was the the old ‘Done’ button

While we generally embrace the many possibilities AI offers, we are very weary when AI get’s connected to our data without our consent.

I could not find any information on the Nola page and would be grateful if you could answer the following questions Nola raises on our end:

  • Are you using your own, exclusive language model or are you using (fully or partially) external models such as ChatGPT, etc.?
  • Where is Nola hosted?
  • Which app information does Nola have access to?
  • Can Nola read data from my connected data sources? If yes, is it possible to opt out?
  • Can Nola modify data on my connected data sources? If yes, is it possible to opt out?
  • Can we/you turn Nola OFF on specific apps?

Thank you.

Hey @Tobias - all valid questions, and a topic we take very seriously.

Let me break down the answer for you.

Are you using your own, exclusive language model or are you using (fully or partially) external models such as ChatGPT, etc.?

Like most tools, we’re using standard foundational models from different vendors such as OpenAI and Anthropic

Where is Nola hosted?

As with everything else in Noloco, it’s hosted in Ireland. Our Security page goes into more details

Which app information does Nola have access to?

Nola only has access to your app’s configuration such as which pages and elements are setup, the app’s settings, and the names of your tables and fields in those tables (and how they’re setup).

  • Can Nola read data from my connected data sources? If yes, is it possible to opt out?
  • Can Nola modify data on my connected data sources? If yes, is it possible to opt out?

Not right now - and when/if we introduce this, you will need to explicitely grant permissions to Nola to allow it access to read from your data (we don’t have big plans to allow updating your data for now)

Nola does have the ability to generate new data for Noloco tables, but not for connected data sources. It can’t update that data once generated though.

Can we/you turn Nola OFF on specific apps?

While not exactly, if you don’t interact with it in any way, Nola won’t use any of the information in the apps.

I hope this clarrifies how Nola is setup, and what it can access. We would never share your data with a 3rd party without your explicit consent or opt-in.

If you’ve any other questions, please let me know.

@darragh Thank you for your clarification!

Does that mean Nola have read access to Noloco tables as well?

Not at the moment no, no data from your tables are sent to our AI providers.

It can generate new rows, by writing to those tables, but not access the data in those tables already.

Does that clarrify it?

Yep. Thank you for that.
