For lists with grouping, I’d love to be able to add an action button which would not be record level, but rather appear in the grouping bar, and therefore reference the field that is being grouped.
For example, I have a list of time logs, grouped by Project. I’d like to add a button at the top of each group to create a new record with that Project as a hidden value.
For now I’m using record buttons.
As an alternative - would you want to open the new record form with this grouped value prefilled?
Or do you want it to be inline?
Opening the new record form with that grouped value pre-filled would work, as long as that button appears somewhere in the group only once. Even a small “+” button in the grouped area somewhere would work.
What I like about using an action button is that sometimes a modal window overlayed over the current page has a more dynamic feel than navigating to a form which takes up the whole page. Must be psychological, but my users “feel” like they’re moving faster when creating records via a pop-up rather than a full-page form.
